Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults - RCIA

The RCIA is the process the Catholic Church offers to those who are asking about the Catholic Faith to experience both their journey in faith, and the experience of others.  Enquirers can listen to what the Church is about, what it teaches about Jesus and how it is lived out.  They can also ask questions and share how God is speaking to them and the other Catholic Christians who are involved.

The parish RCIA group meets on most Thursday evenings at 7.00pm in the Presbytery (but has breaks at  Summer and Christmas - check the Bulletin or contact us).  It usually involves people who have not been Baptised, been Baptised in another Christian Church or wish to prepare for adult Confirmation.  Normally the time for reception into full communion with the Catholic Church is at the Easter Vigil; but individuals may need to enquire for longer.  Please contact us to hear more.

The Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary has been established here in St John Vianney since 1942.

It is an organisation of Catholic lay people whose primary aim is the sanctification of its members by prayer and active co-operation in the work of the Church, which is Mary’s work.  As its name indicates the Legion of Mary takes Our Lady as its model in serving Christin our neighbour.  Following the traditional teaching of the Church it acts on the principle that in loving and serving Mary we draw closer to Christ.

Here at St John Vianney and St Monica’s parish there are just five active members whose wmain work is visiting the sick and housebound of the parish, but always ready to help and assist our parish priest.

Meetings are held in the presbytery every Thursday afternoon at 1.30pm.  The Rosary and the Magnificat is prayed by Legionaries every day.  Our prayers support Legionaries who travel and visit countries all over the world to bring Christ to those who do not know him, thereby fulfilling the Divine Mission of the Church: “Go, teach all nations”
