Our Gap Year Students 2016-17

SHCJ Sisters

As part of CAFOD’s “Step into the Gap” project our parish hosts two students who work at St Mary’s School with the Chaplaincy team, and join a CAFOD project for a month during the year.  James and Hannah are our very new Gapper Year students!  If you have children at St Mary’s School or are a regular at St John Vianney and St Monica’s you will have heard of them and, maybe, even met them!

In the New Year they will be spending a month in either Cambodia or Ethiopia with CAFOD projects and will return with great stories - so keep an eye on them and their journey.

(If you want to know more about “Step into the Gap”, or might want to volunteer for a year in one of CAFOD’s placements in England and Wales please see here )

Katy & Michelle

Katy & Michelle

During 2015-16 we got to know Michelle, from Bristol, and Katy, from Warrington.

As part of their year Michelle visited Peru to join a CAFOD team there, and Katy joined a team in Zimbabwe.

We wish Katy and Michelle well for their future as they both go off to University for a new life.  We hope they will take with them what they learned with us - we will certainly remember them! Oh, Michelle is going to Leicester and Katy to Bradford.

Our Gap Year Students 2014-15

Bernadette was our first Gap Year student.  She has been following her experiences in Nicaragua by keeping in touch with a group of Religious Sisters who she worked with there and has stayed with in Spain.  They are the Sisters of the Guardian Angels who work with young people in schools and in the streets of other parts of the world.  Pray for Bernadette as she goes to join the community of sisters in Seville later in September 2016 - a great adventure!
